Steele, Ben

Ben Steele often considers himself to  be on the outside of the Art World looking in. Rather than fitting into a specific movement, he might best be described as an art chameleon, his work commenting on the whole history of art.  His skills encompass many different painting  processes and styles; his work radiates, with warmth and humor, a keen appreciation of art and contemporary culture.

Born in Kennewick, Washington, Steele relocated to Utah in his teens, graduating from the University of Utah in 2002 with a BFA in Painting and Drawing. He continued his education at the Helper Workshops, an art education and apprenticeship program in Helper, Utah, under the instruction of artists David Dornan and Paul Davis. He currently lives in Helper with his family.

Oil on Canvas

With an education built upon classical training, he enjoys utilizing the techniques and processes of the old masters with a contemporary sensibility. What results is a paradoxical reverence for art with playful and sometimes pointed commentary
